Lichtenberg Castle Tour
t was in the 13th century that the Lichtenberg family really built this Castle on a hill at an altitude of 400 m. The castle was a strategic place when Vauban decided to reinforce it in order to make it one of the key points in the Northern Vosges defence system. The Castle has a troubled history being overwhelmed by Louis XIV's troops at the time Alsace was annexed to France and bombarded by the German army in 1870. However, the ruins of the fortress are among the most beautiful in the region.

Last admission to the site is one hour before closing.
Last service at the cafeteria is 30 minutes before site closing.
The 16thcentury Gothicstyle chapel is particularly worth a visit. The marble mausoleum is one of the most beautiful in Renaissance Alsace. A monumental stairway leads you up to the tops of the towers. From here, you can catch a glimpse of the spire of the Strasbourg Cathedral.

Opening hours
From April 3rd: Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm and holidays.
May-June: Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 6pm and public holidays.
July-August: 7 days/7 from 10am to 6pm and holidays. Attention the opening times can be changed during the Medievals which take place at the castle from 3 to 10 July. See the calendar for schedules during the event.
September to October 11 : Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm. Exceptional closure from 12 to 16 October.
From October 17 to November 1 : 7D/7 from 2pm to 7pm (except Saturday, October 17 and Friday, October 31 from 6pm to 11pm) for the Halloween event at Lichtenberg Castle.

The château's reception, shop, cafeteria, indoor exhibition areas and auditorium are accessible to people with reduced mobility thanks to level access, walkways or a staircase platform depending on the building.

The castle of Lichtenberg is located in Alsace, 60 km from Strasbourg (about 50 min), 30 km from Haguenau and Saverne (about 35 min) and 130 km from Metz, Nancy and Colmar (about 1h30). Motorway A4 towards Paris exit Hochfelden and towards Strasbourg exit Sarre-Union; follow Bouxwiller-Ingwiller-Lichtenberg.

Strasbourg-Sarreguemines. The nearest train stations are in Ingwiller (+ bus line TER Ingwiller - Lichtenberg) or in Wingen-sur-Moder.

The Academy of Wizards of Lichtenberg Castle opens its doors from 17 October to 1 November 2026
Halloween is back at Lichtenberg Castle and becomes exceptionally the Academy of Wizards of Lichtenberg during the school holidays of Toussaint. With a playbook, discover the different corners of the castle. As you explore, solve puzzles, develop your magic powers and thwart Jacques le Barbu's evil plans. Magic, witchcraft and mysteries simmer the castle for an immersive adventure to live with family or friends!
A magical immersion in the heart of the decorated castle...
Every day from 12pm to 7pm (except Saturday 17th and 31st October, special evenings from 6pm to 11pm), let yourself be transported in a universe mixing magic and witchcraft. Immersive decors, games of lights, magical stagings and animations will guide you through the castle at nightfall. Put on your costumes and go looking for clues scattered in the Lichtenberg Academy of Wizards to develop your magic powers: hide witches, haunted cemetery, mysterious classrooms, forgotten grimoires...
