Lichtenberg Castle Tour
t was in the 13th century that the Lichtenberg family really built this Castle on a hill at an altitude of 400 m. The castle was a strategic place when Vauban decided to reinforce it in order to make it one of the key points in the Northern Vosges defence system. The Castle has a troubled history being overwhelmed by Louis XIV's troops at the time Alsace was annexed to France and bombarded by the German army in 1870. However, the ruins of the fortress are among the most beautiful in the region.

<p>The Pass'Alsace is not valid for events. Please enquire before visiting the château.</p><p>Last admission to the site is one hour before closing.<br />Last service at the cafeteria is 30 minutes before site closing.</p>
The 16thcentury Gothicstyle chapel is particularly worth a visit. The marble mausoleum is one of the most beautiful in Renaissance Alsace. A monumental stairway leads you up to the tops of the towers. From here, you can catch a glimpse of the spire of the Strasbourg Cathedral.

<p>From 29 March and in April: Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm and all public holidays.<br />May-June: Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 6pm and all public holidays.<br />July-August: 7 days a week, Monday to Sunday, 10am to 6pm.<br />September-October (until 13 October 2024): Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm. Exceptionally closed from 13 to 17 October.<br />From 18 October to 2 November: 7 days a week from 2pm to 7pm (except Saturday 18 October and Friday 31 October from 6pm to 11pm) for the Halloween event at Château de Lichtenberg.</p>Accessibility

The château's reception, shop, cafeteria, indoor exhibition areas and auditorium are accessible to people with reduced mobility thanks to level access, walkways or a staircase platform depending on the building.

The castle of Lichtenberg is located in Alsace, 60 km from Strasbourg (about 50 min), 30 km from Haguenau and Saverne (about 35 min) and 130 km from Metz, Nancy and Colmar (about 1h30). Motorway A4 towards Paris exit Hochfelden and towards Strasbourg exit Sarre-Union; follow Bouxwiller-Ingwiller-Lichtenberg.

Strasbourg-Sarreguemines. The nearest train stations are in Ingwiller (+ bus line TER Ingwiller - Lichtenberg) or in Wingen-sur-Moder.
