The Alsatian landscape as we know it today has been formed over several million or billion years. The amazing variety of rocks that compose its soil, invites us to look at another way in which this landscape made of shale, granite, sandstone, limestone... Landscapes sometimes submerged or emerged, sometimes tropical or arid climates succeed each other on such a wide time scale that its perception is a real challenge for our imagination. The exhibition Under the ocean, Alsace aims to paint a portrait of these landscapes through the interpretation of the study of its rocks and the fossils found by generations of geologists, paleontologists and enlightened amateurs.
