Outre-Forêt Rural House
The Maison Rurale de l'Outre-Forêt was created at the instigation of the Cercle d'Histoire de l'Outre-Forêt. The Cercle was looking for a farmhouse representative of the North Alsace region to showcase its heritage and open it to the public, but also to pass on the traditions and know-how of the Outre-Forêt. The Rural House was inaugurated in July 1998. Since then, it has welcomed 12 to 15,000 visitors per year.
The Maison Rurale de l'Outre-Forêt is a former farmhouse, now a heritage interpretation centre: a lively place to discover Alsace's heritage and its popular arts and traditions.
The various collections on display, illustrations of rural life in the first half of the 20th century, as well as the activities, workshops and exhibitions that complete the visit to the site, invite young and old to embrace the multiple facets of the regional art of living: from the architecture of the buildings to the traditions and know-how of our ancestors...

The visit of this traditional farmhouse, along with craftmen’s workshops, a dairy and even a classroom, is an invitation to discover rural life, popular arts and traditions of the early 20th century.
The Maison Rurale de l'Outre-Forêt is a former farmhouse, typical of the region called "Outre-Forêt", located in the Vosges du Nord Regional Nature Park. Now a heritage interpretation centre, the Maison Rurale de l'Outre-Forêt offers visitors the opportunity to discover the habitat, way of life, traditions and know-how that existed in the Alsatian countryside between 1920 and 1950.
In this typical Northern Alsatian farmhouse, you will find all the useful functions of rural life.
Opening hours
1 February to 30 April: open Wednesday and Thursday, 11am to 5pm; Saturday and Sunday, 2pm to 6pm.
1 May to 30 September: Tuesday to Sunday and public holidays, 11am to 6pm.
1 October to 31 December: Wednesdays and Thursdays, 11am to 5pm; Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, 2pm to 6pm. Closed on 25 December and in January from 1 to 31 January 2027.

21st edition of the Point de Croix and Embroidery Festival

The 21st edition of the Point de Croix and Embroidery Festival, organized by the Rural House of Outre-Forêt, will take place from 23 to 25 October 2026, from 10am to 6pm, on about ten sites in Kutzenhausen and in nearby localities.
This festival, carried by the warmth and passion of many creators of cross stitches and embroidery, will take place in emblematic places such as the Outre-Forêt Rural House, the Soultz-Sous-Forêts Saline, the Kutzenhausen Multipurpose Hall, as well as in several artists' workshops.
The Friends of the MROF, with the support of the Club de fil en pointe and the Communauté de communes Sauer-Pechelbronn, will welcome visitors through several exhibitions, including the unbeatable Broder
More than 100 exhibitors, all passionate and specialists in the fields of creation, art and crafts, will join the festival for this edition which will announce rich in discoveries.
In addition to exhibitions, visitors will be able to participate in various internships and workshops scheduled before, during and even after the festival.

From November 1 to 22, 2026, discover the exhibition "This is not a tile"! Different Alsatian artists revisit the Biberschwanz, a traditional "beaver tail" tile and reveal their surprising creations...
This exhibition is organised in partnership with the association "L-art beyond the eye", which aims to promote the accessibility of blind and visually impaired audiences to the emotions of the discovery of art, nature and culture, in their most immediate forms, such as those most elaborate:
"These are works made from ancient Alsatian tiles by artists who support the Art Association beyond the eye. All these artists have been supporting the association for several years on a fairly simple principle: they are asked for a work on a theme (here that of tiles) where everyone can express their artistic vision from this object. The work can be abstract to free figurative to each to use his technique of choice. When a work is sold, each artist undertakes to pay 50% to the association. Here the tiles will be sold for 350 € piece. Each time it is a collective exhibition, presenting one to two works per artist always according to the same principle. As an artist, we have supported the association for over 30 years for some. A co-op system exists to involve new personalities."
