Hanau Museum

The Bouxwiller museum was created by an association in 1933. Gauthier Thieling, its first curator, was a history enthusiast and literature teacher at the Bouxwiller secondary school. Initially housed in the Town Hall, the museum acquired an important collection of popular arts and traditions under the impetus of its second curator, Alfred Matt, who remained in post until 1995.

In 1994, the town of Bouxwiller joined the mutualised conservation scheme set up by the Vosges du Nord Regional Nature Park and appointed a professional curator. The project of a society museum, dealing with the territory as a whole and in all its dimensions, beyond popular arts and traditions, began to emerge. It then obtained the "Musée de France" designation and became municipal.

On 29 June 2013, after two years of work, the new Museum of the Pays de Hanau opened its doors and exhibited a selection of its collections in an attractive and warm scenography.

Bewitched fossils" workshop organised by the Maison de le Famille

3 April 2024 16:30

Pour les enfants

Free

Free workshop offered by the Maison de la famille, as part of their colibri workshops. Children aged 7 to 12. Before the development of science, fossils were seen as mysterious objects and fed superstitions around the Bastberg hill.

During this original workshop, children will discover how mankind is able to construct an imaginary world from elements found in nature, and how legends are born. Children can then invent their own magical creature and discover one of Bouxwiller's witch legends, using a kamishibai.
