Ecomuseum of Alsace
The Écomusée d'Alsace opened its doors to the public on 1 June 1984. It was inaugurated shortly afterwards by Jack Lang, Minister of Culture. When it opened, the museum had about twenty buildings, some of which were unfinished, but it was already a success! It welcomed 75,000 visitors in its first year. Everyone encouraged the association to continue the adventure. The Alsatians then donated thousands of objects to the Écomusée d'Alsace, constituting the beginning of the interior fittings of the buildings: furniture, clothes, documents, photographs, etc.

The Écomusée is the largest living, open-air museum in France: explore an early 20th century Alsatian village, with its streets, buildings, gardens and fields. Traditional village festivities, daily events and demonstrations take place in the village throughout the year.

On March 21, the Écomusée d’Alsace is organizing its traditional big spring clean-up. A day of participatory projects that brings together volunteers, teams, and one-day helpers around a common goal: taking care of a living heritage, together. On the agenda: maintenance and painting work, small repairs and carpentry, landscaping, and enhancing museum spaces. Beyond the concrete tasks, Osterputz embodies what defines the museum’s identity: a collaborative dynamic, the transmission of know-how, and civic engagement for the common good.
Would you like to contribute, for a day, to the preservation of France’s largest open-air museum? A convivial meal and a drink will be offered to the day’s volunteers.

Dive into the heart of Alsatian traditions and celebrate spring!
The Ecomuseum of Alsace celebrates Easter! Enjoy the arrival of spring in the authentic décor of the Écomusée d'Alsace. Throughout the weekend, meet our cooks and their Easter specialities including the traditional Lamala, Lent Green soup and colorful eggs, but also our farmers, who have programmed many births. You will also have the opportunity to meet artisans at the turn of a small Easter artisanal market.
On April 5th and 6th, go on an adventure with the cocot: go through the museum and solve puzzles inspired by Easter traditions to find the Easter hare and its garden where it hid its chocolate eggs. During these two days, the traditions of conscripts and their challenges will be in the spotlight: come and stand up to them!

Welcome the month of May and let yourself be carried away by the spring atmosphere.
In the heart of the museum, discover the customs of the countryside when the beautiful days arrive. Around the May trees, participate in the creation of a symbolic tree and admire the traditional dances around the festive mast. The museum lives up to the rhythm of rural traditions: visits to gardens and orchards, family activities and small flower markets. Follow the Queens of May who travel the village and soak up the festive atmosphere.
