On the occasion of the Nuits de la lecture (Reading Nights) with the theme Cities and Countryside, we invite you to a lecture by Bernard Stoehr to discover the plants and traditions of Alsace. Bernard Stoehr is well known within the Society and the Natural History and Ethnography Museum of Colmar. President of the association from 1999 to 2003 and again in 2025, he is also active as head of the “naturalist expeditions” section, editor of the scientific bulletin, lecturer, and leader of botanical outings. A botanist, naturalist guide, and holder of a state alpine climbing certificate, Bernard Stoehr is also an expert member of several scientific committees. In 2023, he collaborated with Alsatian ethnographer Gérard Leser to present Alsatian folk pharmacopoeia (Les plantes en Alsace, 2023). A companion of daily life, plants accompany humans through the different seasons of life. This lecture aims to present the traditional use of plants according to Alsatian beliefs and customs, as well as to introduce some of the most common plant-based remedies in our countryside.
